contours - self-guided tourOn an Independent Trails Holiday you follow the route without a guide, staying somewhere different each night. We arrange your accommodation along the trail, provide you with maps and a guidebook and transport your luggage to your next night's accommodation.

Independent Trails start whenever you want - simply tell us when you would like to arrive; you start walking the following day. If you wish, you can add extra nights for rest days or sightseeing.

You stay in comfortable hotels, country inns, family-run guesthouses and farmhouse bed and breakfast's along the trail, which have been carefully chosen for their warm and friendly welcome and the quality of their accommodation. We always book en-suite rooms with private bathrooms where they are available, but some, in the remoter areas where accommodation is limited, may not have private facilities. A traditional cooked breakfast is included. In keeping with the flexible nature of these tours we do not arrange lunches or evening meals. Packed lunches are available each day from your accommodation, although you may prefer to stop forlunch at an inn or café along the trail. Evening meals are available at your accommodation or from an inn nearby.

Prices
Our prices, which are per person, are based on two people sharing a twin-bedded room or a couple a double-bedded room. Single rooms are available but they tend to be in short supply, carry a supplement and book very quickly.

The holiday price includes:

  • Accommodation in en-suite rooms (where available) in selected hotels, inns, guesthouses and farmhouse bed and breakfast's along the trail.
  • Traditional cooked breakfast
  • Luggage transfer (one suitcase per person) between each overnight stop
  • A set of maps with the route marked on, and a guidebook describing the trail
  • An information pack containing an itinerary, detailed instructions on how to find your accommodation each night, town plans, information about facilities and places of interest along the trail and a kit list.
  • Detailed travel instructions on how to get to the start of your holiday and back from the end of it.
  • Emergency assistance

Travel
We cannot make travel arrangements for you, but detailed instructions on how to get to the start/back from the end of your holiday will be sent to you when you book. All our holidays are readily accessible by train or coach, although it may be necessary to make a short bus or taxi journey to reach the hotel. If you wish to travel by car we can arrange parking at the start of the trail and transport back to your car at the end of the trail at an additional charge.
