Cotswold Way - South to North

The reverse version of the Cotswold Way runs from Bath to Chipping Campden. The trail follows the route of the Cotswold Way escarpment as it falls away to reveal impressive views of the River Severn. From the World Heritage Site of Bath, the trail passes through a variety of scenery as it rolls over the Cotswolds Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty.
Between picturesque hedgerows and iconic dry-stone walls, the trail visits a series of beautiful villages, including the ancient Saxon town of Winchcombe with the famed gargoyles of St Peter’s Church and Painswick, with its Cotswold Stone buildings and fine yews in the parish church.
As the trail arrives in Chipping Campden, the history of the stunning old market town will give you the chance to reflect on the landscape of the Cotswolds. From Civil War battle sites and Cotswold Stone cottages to prehistoric barrows and impressive churches. This is the ideal way to experience the iconic countryside of the Cotswolds.

Cotswold Way - South Section - South to North
Bath to Painswick along the tranquil countryside of the Cotswold escarpment.

The reverse version of the Cotswold Way – South Section, runs from Bath to Painswick. The World Heritage Site of Bath marks the start of the trail, with Roman bath houses, botanical gardens and breath-taking regency terraces creating a wonderful setting from which to start your walk.
From here, the trail visits quaint little villages like Cold Ashton and Tormarton, before continuing through rolling green pastures to Wotton-under-Edge, an old wool trading town. The undulating terrain through open fields, pretty woodland and winding along the Cotswold escarpment, make the final stretch of the walk to Painswick particularly rewarding. Here, the narrow lanes with Cotswold Stone buildings and enchanting church provides the perfect place to relax as you complete this section of the Cotswold Way.

The reverse version of the Cotswold Way – North Section, runs from Painswick to Chipping Campden. The trail takes in the prettiest towns and villages along the Cotswolds Escarpment and passes through some of the finest rural scenery in England.
From the quaint village of Painswick, with its famous Cotswold Stone buildings, the trail continues to Birdlip, before continuing to Winchcombe, famous for its wool trade and home to one of the largest Benedictine monasteries in England.
Soon, the trail arrives in Chipping Campden, a spectacular finish to the North Section of the Cotswold Way with its pretty market place lined by terraces in Cotswold Stone. This is the perfect way to taste the charm of the Cotswold Way.
