About the trail

Bottle-nosed dolphins and grey seals are common sights on this shoreline and clifftop walk along the Ceredigion coastline. Sweeping from Machynlleth on woodland tracks and farmland pathways bordering the Dyfi, the Ceredigion Coast Path takes in far-reaching views of the Tarren Hills before joining the coastline and striking south around Cardigan Bay.

Undulating, high-level sections of the walk promise gorgeous seaside views, while miles of beach walking let you get right down to the surf. This is a particularly vibrant and friendly section of the Wales Coast Path, too, as it wends between welcoming coastal towns such as Aberystwyth, Llanrhystud, and Aberaeron.

We offer multiple holiday options along this trail. If you wish to experience the entire trail, simply select the first option from the list below.

Ceredigion Coast Path - North Section

The northern half of the Ceredigion Coast Path takes in wide views across the estuary. You'll rise and fall with the lower flanks of the Dyfi hills on the walk out to Borth, where the famous submerged forest – and the wide expanse of the sea – awaits.

This scenic section of the Wales Coast Path clambers multiple high cliffs to award far-reaching panoramas, with a perfect picnic stop waiting at Constitution Hill. A forgotten stretch of sandy coastline then brings this wonderful walk to its conclusion in Llanrhystud.

Your Itinerary

This itinerary lists our preferred overnight stops for this tour. Sometimes there may be a shortage of available accommodation in a preferred location, in which case we will transfer you from the trail to your accommodation and back again at no extra charge. Overnight stops marked with a (T) will always require transfers as standard.

Overnight stops marked with an (L) have very limited accommodation, and therefore more often than not will also require a transfer, particularly on bank holidays and weekends. We will use non-transfer accommodation wherever possible.

The daily mileages quoted are average trail miles only and do not include the distance from the trail to your accommodation. We do not expect you to have to travel more than a mile from the trail to your accommodation in most cases; should your accommodation be further than this, transfers will be provided as standard if practical. A very limited number of stops will require you to travel on foot up to two miles off the trail, however these instances will be clearly communicated to you if applicable.

Further transfers may also be required due to some accommodations having a two-night minimum booking policy, especially at weekends.

Below are the additional costs that may apply depending on your requirements. Dog-friendly tours are subject to a Daily Dog Charge, which will be listed below if applicable. Our standard prices per person are based upon two people sharing a room; if you are on your own, or are part of a group but require a room of your own, then the Solo Traveller or Single Supplements apply respectively:

Extra Nights & Rest Days

A rest day can extend your holiday and let you soak in your surroundings at a particular spot.

Picturesque Machynlleth is a popular place to take one. Its wide main street is lined with brightly-painted shops, and it was here that Owain Glyndwr set up his government. His Parliament building hosts a museum dedicated to him. Plas Machynlleth, the 17th century mansion of the Marquess of Londonberry, houses Celtica, an exhibition of all things Celtic, while the Centre for Alternative Technology and the Wales Museum of Modern Art both promise a full day out.

The old fishing village of Borth, meanwhile, offers a wealth of things to see and do, from the Cors Goch Fochno peat bog and the sand dunes at Ynyslas, to the extraordinary stumps of ancient forests that emerge from the sand at low tide. With a sandy beach perfect for a day stretched out in the sun, this can be a relaxing rest day option.

You can add rest days at any of the overnight stops:

Extra night (Standard)
£65.00 per person / per night
Extra night (Llanrhystud(L))
