About the trail

Bottle-nosed dolphins and grey seals are common sights on this shoreline and clifftop walk along the Ceredigion coastline. Sweeping from Machynlleth on woodland tracks and farmland pathways bordering the Dyfi, the Ceredigion Coast Path takes in far-reaching views of the Tarren Hills before joining the coastline and striking south around Cardigan Bay.

Undulating, high-level sections of the walk promise gorgeous seaside views, while miles of beach walking let you get right down to the surf. This is a particularly vibrant and friendly section of the Wales Coast Path, too, as it wends between welcoming coastal towns such as Aberystwyth, Llanrhystud, and Aberaeron.

We offer multiple holiday options along this trail. If you wish to experience the entire trail, simply select the first option from the list below.

Ceredigion Coast Path - South Section

The southern section of the Ceredigion Coast Path borders Cardigan Bay throughout its 41-mile journey, and crosses low-level cliffs with few of the stiff ascents of the northern half.

From this part of the trail, grey seals can often be spotted down in the caves that pock the rock face. Broad beaches frequently bring you close to the waves, while the extensive walls and arches of the ruined St Dogmaels Abbey provide an atmospheric glimpse back through history.

Your Itinerary

This itinerary lists our preferred overnight stops for this tour. Sometimes there may be a shortage of available accommodation in a preferred location, in which case we will transfer you from the trail to your accommodation and back again at no extra charge. Overnight stops marked with a (T) will always require transfers as standard.

Overnight stops marked with an (L) have very limited accommodation, and therefore more often than not will also require a transfer, particularly on bank holidays and weekends. We will use non-transfer accommodation wherever possible.

The daily mileages quoted are average trail miles only and do not include the distance from the trail to your accommodation. We do not expect you to have to travel more than a mile from the trail to your accommodation in most cases; should your accommodation be further than this, transfers will be provided as standard if practical. A very limited number of stops will require you to travel on foot up to two miles off the trail, however these instances will be clearly communicated to you if applicable.

Further transfers may also be required due to some accommodations having a two-night minimum booking policy, especially at weekends.

Below are the additional costs that may apply depending on your requirements. Dog-friendly tours are subject to a Daily Dog Charge, which will be listed below if applicable. Our standard prices per person are based upon two people sharing a room; if you are on your own, or are part of a group but require a room of your own, then the Solo Traveller or Single Supplements apply respectively:

Travel Information

Useful information and travel links that will assist you in your plans to travel to the start of the holiday and back from the end of it are sent to you with your full tour pack. A summary is given below:

By Air - The most convenient major city and international airports are Bristol, Cardiff and Liverpool John Lennon.

By Rail - The nearest rail station to the start of the trail (Llanrhystud) is at Aberystwyth (about 9 miles away). The nearest rail stations to the end of the trail (St Dogmaels) are either Fishguard & Goodwick (about 20 miles away) or Carmarthen (about 30 miles away).

By Bus - A bus runs to Llanrhystud from Aberystwyth, but can be rather infrequent at times, so a taxi may be required. There are bus services to both Fishguard & Goodwick and Carmarthen rail stations (only Monday to Saturday to Carmarthen) from St Dogmaels, but these are somewhat lengthly journeys, so a taxi would be the best option.

From London - Trains run from London Euston to Aberystwyth. From there a bus/taxi will be required to Llanrhystud.

Return To The Start - The easiest way to return to the start of the trail, is to take the bus from St Dogmaels to Llanrhystud (Monday to Saturday only), but a taxi would be much quicker/essential on a Sunday.
