About this route

This two-day taste of the Pennine Way launches immediately into the windswept views that characterise the full National Trail. Climbing steeply up Jacob’s Ladder to the rugged outcrop of Edale Rocks, the trail winds through an almost lunar landscape of pebbles, black peat and protruding stone.

Its two big summits, Bleaklow Head and Black Hill, award climbes with moorland views beneath enormous skies. Pretty reservoirs inhabited by wildlife draw you back down to less-windswept pathways before the walk’s end in Standedge.
