About The Trail

This scenic walk journeys through the historic county of Westmorland and the Lake District National Park. Beginning at Appleby, in the shadow of the Pennines, the trail enjoys landscapes of quiet lakes, pretty meadows, ancient woodlands and lush pastures, and passes impressive viewpoints including Jenkin Crag.

The beauty of the scenery is complimented perfectly by the stone-built cottages of the various pleasant villages along the walk, as well as magnificent historic sites including a Norman castle and Shap Abbey. Altogether, the Westmorland Way is a hidden gem of a trail, exploring many little-known wonders of the world-famous Lake District.
