Enjoyed the variety. The moorlands sections are a nice mix of “up & down” along the Cleveland Hills Ridge, together with more level sections when you can just appreciate the scenery (and the heather was beautiful). I especially liked the first day of coastal walking (Saltburn to Runswick Bay).

Despite the weather, we enjoyed our walk and we are very glad to have done it. Having lodging arrangements made for us with no snags or problems allowed us to focus on our walk and enjoy ourselves more. The luggage transfers were always handled efficiently we were never without our luggage and never had to worry about where it was.

All the villages were lovely. We had a serendipitous tour of Gordon Russell Museum in Broadway which was great. Audio tour at Hailes Abbey was fantastic. Walking through fields with cows, sheep and horses was a great experience for two city people and the long views from the Cotswold escarpments were spectacular.

There was enough time to look at places of interest, churches and other buildings etc. It was lovely to walk with just a day sack and to know a comfortable room and hot bath or shower awaited us. The scenery was stunning and varied, we saw lots of birds and the wild flowers were wonderful. Every overnight stop was good, friendly and helpful people, good rooms and breakfasts.

A superb fortnight. A wonderful walk, different every day. Great camaraderie along the way and each evening. I knew the lakes and the Dales but I didn’t know “No Man’s Land” between Shap and Keld and had never heard of “The Nine Standards”. Also, had never been above Swaledale and seen the fascinating mining area. North York Moors was also new. So as well as the great feeling of “having done it”, I learnt a lot about England and its history. Meeting up with walkers we had met along the way in “Wainwright’s bar” at the end rounded the experience off beautifully.

You see parts of Cornwall that you would never get to touring by car. We had a helicopter trip to the Scillies on our last day together and roared with laughter when we saw how far we had walked around the coast path compared with the actual size of the peninsula!
