Created by Alfred Wainwright, the Coast to Coast Walk crosses the North of England from the Irish Sea at St Bees to the North Sea at Robin Hoods Bay. Wainwright’s Coast to Coast Walk passes through some of the most beautiful and varied scenery in the country: the rugged mountains and beautiful lakes of the Lake District, the rolling hills and pretty valleys of the Yorkshire Dales and the expansive heather moorland of the North York Moors, with some dramatic coastal scenery at each end.

Highlights of the walk include: Dipping your toes in the Irish Sea at St Bees at the start of the Coast to Coast Walk; the first views of the mountains of the Lake District from Dent Fell; the dramatic mountain scenery on the walk through Ennerdale; Rosthwaite, a charming hamlet of whitewashed cottage, bustling farms and inviting inns; the beautiful village of Grasmere, packed with attractions including Dove Cottage, the best-known home of William Wordsworth, the school where Wordsworth once taught, now home to Sarah Nelson's famous Gingerbread Shop and St. Oswald's church, the last resting place for the Wordsworth family; the views of Ullswater from Boredale Hause; the shoreline path along Haweswater; the ancient market town of Kirkby Stephen; the Camaraderie shared with fellow walkers on the Coast to Coast Walk; the flower-filled meadows of Swaledale; the welcoming inns surrounding Reeth’s spacious green; exploring the cobbled streets and alleyways of historic Richmond; the ancient stone crosses dotted across the North York Moors; the Lion Inn, with its dark time-worn beams, cosy nooks and open fires; the pretty villages of Eskdale; the first glimpse of the North Sea; dipping your toes in the North Sea at Robin Hood’s Bay at the end of the Coast to Coast Walk.
