The Dales Way meanders through the heart of the Yorkshire Dales to the shores of Windermere in the Lake District.

Beginning at the little stone town of Ilkley, the Dales Way follows the River Wharfe to its source on Cam Fell, past the romantic ruin of Bolton Priory and the pretty villages of Burnsall, Grassington, Kettlewell and Buckden. Beyond Cam Fell, the trail follows the River Dee through the charming village of Dent, with its narrow cobbled streets, to the old market town of Sedbergh nestling beneath the steep slopes of the Howgill Fells. At Sedbergh, the Dales Way leaves the Yorkshire Dales and with the mountains of the Lake District crowning the horizon, heads for Windermere across rolling farmland scattered with farms and isolated villages.

We also offer the Dales Way as a trail running holiday, for those eager to enjoy this trail at speed. Click here to find out more.

Holiday Highlights

  • Crossing two national parks, the Yorkshire Dales National Park and the Lake District National Park.
  • Admiring the iconic dry stone walls and enclosed rolling fields of the Yorkshire Dales.
  • The variety of scenery, from moors to riversides.

Testimonials

"Blessed with great weather, scenery, accommodation, food and local ales."
- Mr Hogg. UK

"The moors were heavenly and even the steep walks in the Fells were good. We (three seniors in our 70's and one young 59er) laughed so much during the whole way that we have agreed that it's the best trip that we've ever experienced. Next week we'll have a Full English Breakfast together to remind us of that remarkable time."
- Ms Miller. Canada
