Bob Graham Round

Bob Graham was a fell runner who broke the record for climbing the greatest number of mountains in the Lake District within 24 hours. In 1932, he set a new record of 42 peaks. His route took in the most iconic mountains in the Lake District, including Skiddaw, Great Calva, Scafell Pike and 38 other amazing Lake District fells.

And can you walk the Bob Graham Round? Absolutely. Tackled over five or six days, our Bob Graham Round walking holiday offers a hearty challenge for experienced walkers. Though this route is not for the faint-hearted, the views from atop the many peaks serve as ample reward along the way.

Your Itinerary

This itinerary lists our preferred overnight stops for this tour. Sometimes there may be a shortage of available accommodation in a preferred location, in which case we will transfer you from the trail to your accommodation and back again at no extra charge. Overnight stops marked with a (T) will always require transfers as standard.

Overnight stops marked with an (L) have very limited accommodation, and therefore more often than not will also require a transfer, particularly on bank holidays and weekends. We will use non-transfer accommodation wherever possible.

The daily mileages quoted are average trail miles only and do not include the distance from the trail to your accommodation. We do not expect you to have to travel more than a mile from the trail to your accommodation in most cases; should your accommodation be further than this, transfers will be provided as standard if practical. A very limited number of stops will require you to travel on foot up to two miles off the trail, however these instances will be clearly communicated to you if applicable.

Further transfers may also be required due to some accommodations having a two-night minimum booking policy, especially at weekends.

Below are the additional costs that may apply depending on your requirements. Dog-friendly tours are subject to a Daily Dog Charge, which will be listed below if applicable. Our standard prices per person are based upon two people sharing a room; if you are on your own, or are part of a group but require a room of your own, then the Solo Traveller or Single Supplements apply respectively:

Extra Nights & Rest Days

The lively little market town of Keswick is an ideal choice for a rest day. It has plenty of interesting shops, a couple of award-winning museums and a lovely theatre by the lake. There are boat trips on Derwentwater, or you could walk to the mystical Castlerigg Stone Circle, the fine viewpoint of Friar's Crag or climb Skiddaw, the fourth highest mountain in England. There are many of good walks from the town and it is possible to explore Borrowdale by taking a boat trip on the lake.

The lovely village of Grasmere is also a good choice for a rest day. You could visit Dove Cottage, the best-known home of William Wordsworth, the school where Wordsworth once taught, now home to Sarah Nelson's famous Gingerbread Shop and St. Oswald's church, the last resting place for the Wordsworth family.

If you fancy somewhere quieter, Rosthwaite offers many lovely walks in the hills around Borrowdale.

Customer reviews from the Bob Graham Round

“An amazing adventure.”
Ms Rodge, UK
“An amazing experience! Gruelling yet very rewarding. Made so much better by the high standard of accommodation that Contours had booked for us as well as all the other arrangements like taxis and luggage transfers. My favourite part of the route was Day 4 (Wasdale to Rosthwaite) - stunning, dramatic scenery with Bob Graham Round runners passing by - an exhilarating day!”
Mr Ramsdale, UK
“We truly enjoyed walking the Bob Graham route.”
Mrs Gilmer, USA
“The luggage transfers were flawless and the accommodation was superb. The maps provided with the highlighted routes were great. I love that you had gone to the trouble of highlighting alternative routes for bad weather and the river crossing. This was well thought out. Booking the holiday was easy and Vikki was great at keeping me informed about the booking and going to extra trouble to accommodate us during this particularly busy/difficult time.”
Mrs Salt, UK
“Very nice accommodations, friendly staff and good food. We plan to do coast walking in the south of England, but have not scheduled it yet.”
Mr Pedersen, Norway
“Some excellent walking and scenery. Overall a most enjoyable holiday, we hope to do another of your walks soon. Thank you very much for your help before and during the holiday.”
