About the trail

Created by Alfred Wainwright, the Coast to Coast path crosses the breadth of the North of England from St Bees on the west coast to Robin Hood’s Bay on the east coast. Some of the most varied and beautiful scenery in the country lies ahead, spread over three National Parks.

Wainwright’s Coast to Coast Walking tour clambers the rugged mountains of the Lake District to earn views over glittering tarns. It winds through the pretty valleys of the Yorkshire Dales, and sets out across the expansive heather moorland of the North York Moors. Dramatic coastal scenery waits at the end, with a twisting descent to Robin Hood’s Bay. Choose this country-crossing walking holiday and explore the best landscapes of Northern England.

At long last, this well-known walking holiday is on its way to recognition as a National Trail. The work is still in progress, but anyone walking the Coast to Coast will notice brand new waymarkers going in, complete with the National Trail acorn. It’s an exciting time for one of Contours Holidays’ best-loved routes!

We offer multiple holiday options along this trail. If you wish to experience the entire trail, simply select the first option from the list below.

Customer reviews from the Coast to Coast Walk

“Second time with Contours. All arrangements including information pack, map and guide book, luggage transfers and B&B standards excellent.”
Mr Matthewman, UK
“Absolutely spectacular! Possibly the hike of my lifetime... I climbed mountains, did precarious rocky scrambles, crossed fast flowing streams and peat bogs, stayed in a haunted B&B, braved vicious dogs and a talking rat, saw a man risk his life in pursuit of his hat, watched hares dancing, was entertained by a parrot, took photos of most spectacular waterfalls and walked across the wildest places imaginable... Truly unforgettable...”
Ms Ginter, UK
“A fantastic and surprisingly social experience! Very well planned and organised.”
Mr Brown, UK
“It was a fantastic walk, even if the rain and the very wet moors were a challenge for our knees ... and our shoes! We enjoyed every day! The hospitality was outstanding and the landscapes wonderful!”
Mrs Allemann, Switzerland
“Perfect weather which helped us a lot. Some challenges for us but we managed it. This holiday was postponed twice because of covid. As we are now in our 70\'s we were aware that we were 18 months/2 years older than when it was first booked which might have made a difference had the weather been awful. We enjoyed it all. We enjoyed it all. What was best about it was that every single day was different from the days before.”
Mrs Cartledge, UK
“Smooth, simple, well organised and hassle free.”
Mrs Mytum, UK
“Thanks for organising this really stunning holiday!!”
Mr Darwen, UK
“3rd time we have walked the C2C. Really enjoyed it. Weather was a little inclement in the first week but still enjoyed every bit of it. Accommodation very good. Baggage transfer excellent.”
Mrs Rudkin, UK
“Absolutely loved the walk. The scenery was fabulous, the people we met on the walk, our hosts, our taxi drivers and all the locals were wonderful. The standard of accommodation was excellent. The standard of accommodation was excellent. The walk was challenging and did require some navigation skills - the trail is not well marked but finding our way was half the fun. We had a fabulous time and were disappointed when day 16 arrived - we wanted to keep going. We were impressed with the standard of accommodation, the hosts were all extremely welcoming and all the transfers went well, even the one we didn't contact in the morning. We left our walking poles in a pub in one village and emailed Contours on a Sunday afternoon asking if there was any chance we could recover them. They got back to us that afternoon and our poles arrived the next day.”
