About the trail

Enjoy an engaging hike through changing landscapes from Fife’s industrial south to the rural north. The Fife Coastal Path explores an area of low cliffs and rocky bays, grass-tufted dunes and picturesque fishing villages. Glimpse grey seals basking on the rocks just off the shore, and count the abundant reminders of Scotland’s rich history, including the caves with prehistoric paintings, the castles and the old watch houses, to name but a few.

Between the many thriving little ports along the trail, the path explores a large part of Fife’s coastline, with plenty of beachside walking and scenic views over historic ruins to enjoy.

We offer multiple holiday options along this trail. If you wish to experience the entire trail, simply select the first option from the list below.

Sometimes there may be a shortage of available accommodation in a preferred location, in which case we will transfer you from the trail to your accommodation and back again at no extra charge. Overnight stops marked with a (T) will always require transfers as standard.

Overnight stops marked with an (L) have very limited accommodation, and therefore more often than not will also require a transfer, particularly on bank holidays and weekends. We will use non-transfer accommodation wherever possible.

We do not expect you to have to travel more than a mile from the trail to your accommodation in most cases; should your accommodation be further than this, transfers will be provided as standard if practical. A very limited number of stops will require you to travel on foot up to two miles off the trail, however these instances will be clearly communicated to you if applicable.

Further transfers may also be required due to some accommodations having a two-night minimum booking policy, especially at weekends.

Below are the additional costs that may apply depending on your requirements. Dog-friendly tours are subject to a Daily Dog Charge, which will be listed below if applicable. Our standard prices per person are based upon two people sharing a room; if you are on your own, or are part of a group but require a room of your own, then the Solo Traveller or Single Supplements apply respectively:

Customer reviews from the Fife Coastal Path

“To walk the Fife Coastal Path was an amazing experience. One of the best holidays of our life! We will for sure do more such trips with you. Best regards from Switzerland, Claudia Larsen.”
Ms Larsen, Switzerland
“So much to love about this walk, particularly the areas around Burntisland, Leven, Elie, Pittenweem, St Monans and Anstruther. A photographers delight. A pity I didn't have longer to explore!”
Mrs Dugmore, Australia
“The ongoing communication between the Contours team and me was quick, efficient, answered any/all questions and even went beyond to offer added assistance. This made it possible for my wife and I to start the trip comfortable with all the arrangements. We loved every day of the walking tour. I left a daily journal and, on reflection, there was precious little I would alter. This was our second Contours trip and we are still amazed that your team can find the quality accommodations that you find. Our hosts were universally friendly and helpful - in a few cases way beyond that. Would absolutely recommend this holiday to others - and have done so to 5 good friends and we will continue to recommend your company for playing a key role in creating many magic moments! Last one was 2015. This one was 2023. I hope we do not wait as long for the next one.”
Mr Spicer, Canada
“A superb walk; the arrangements all went well. The B&Bs were excellent, amongst the best that I have ever used. I had a query with accommodation for the Saturday night, but only noticed at mid-day on that day. It was gratifying that a member of staff was still available by phone on a Saturday and the query was clarified quickly and efficiently.”
Mr Hadfield, UK
“We appreciated the fact that someone else was sorting out our accommodation and organising moving our luggage. Everything worked very smoothly.”
Ms Hurst, UK
“Another fabulous Scotland walk. Beautiful coastal vistas, pretty villages, and lots of wildlife.”
Mr Julyan, UK
“A lovely walk through varied countryside. Good food and B&B. Bags arrived as expected at all stops. This walk is relatively flat and has lovely coastal scenery. Visiting St Andrews is worthwhile.”
Mrs Menzies, UK
“We arrived home full of enthusiasm for future walking holidays. Excellent signage and excellent accommodation.”
Mr Martin, New Zealand
