Lancashire Coast Path

The Lancashire Coast Path spans 77 miles between the seaside resort of Arnside, complete with views over the bay to the Lakeland fells, and neatly landscaped Lytham, with its historic windmill and pier.

The trail boasts plenty of marshland pathways and a wide range of wild shorelines to explore, from broad sands to rocky limestone scrambles sheltered by woodland. There’s a variety of birds to spot as you wander, especially near several river estuaries, and plenty of illustrated information boards describing the different species.

These remote stretches are brilliantly contrasted by the more built-up sections. In Morecambe, you’ll enjoy beautiful Lake District views, independent cafes and seaside sculptures all along its expansive seafront, and in Blackpool, you’ll find the famous tower, brightly lit pier and buzzing promenade. The Lancashire Coast Path is a great way to combine this English seaside favourite with the less neon, but no less lively, environments of our rural coastline.

Important information

Please note that early sections of the Lancashire Coast Path, especially between Arnside and Carnforth, are impassable at high tide. Please check the tide times here when planning your holiday dates to ensure that high tide does not fall during the middle of the day, preferably falling early morning or late evening.

Also note that there is a ferry crossing required from Knot-End-On-Sea to Fleetwood at the end of your walking day which operates daily but is subject to tides. As a general rule of thumb, the last ferry leaves around 3.45 hours before low tide and starts again around 2.45 hours after low tide. For tide times see here. Please contact us to check the ferry times will be suitable for your holiday dates.  If the ferry is not running, the alternative is to take a taxi.

Kindly note that if you are booking a dog friendly tour option, that additional transfers may be required from the trail to your accommodation and that your last nights accommodation will be in Blackpool and not at Lytham.

Your Itinerary

This itinerary lists our preferred overnight stops for this tour. Sometimes there may be a shortage of available accommodation in a preferred location, in which case we will transfer you from the trail to your accommodation and back again at no extra charge. Overnight stops marked with a (T) will always require transfers as standard.

Overnight stops marked with an (L) have very limited accommodation, and therefore more often than not will also require a transfer, particularly on bank holidays and weekends. We will use non-transfer accommodation wherever possible.

The daily mileages quoted are average trail miles only and do not include the distance from the trail to your accommodation. We do not expect you to have to travel more than a mile from the trail to your accommodation in most cases; should your accommodation be further than this, transfers will be provided as standard if practical. A very limited number of stops will require you to travel on foot up to two miles off the trail, however these instances will be clearly communicated to you if applicable.

Further transfers may also be required due to some accommodations having a two-night minimum booking policy, especially at weekends.

Below are the additional costs that may apply depending on your requirements. Dog-friendly tours are subject to a Daily Dog Charge, which will be listed below if applicable. Our standard prices per person are based upon two people sharing a room; if you are on your own, or are part of a group but require a room of your own, then the Solo Traveller or Single Supplements apply respectively:
