Peak Pilgrimage

The Peak Pilgrimage walking holiday is a lowland walk from church to church that delves into the history of the Peak District’s villages and enjoys the stunning limestone dales between. The route flows north from Ilam along the River Dove, dipping into pretty villages like Hartington and Monyash, and offers the opportunity to explore Bakewell, home to a good number of independent shops and eateries — and the town’s signature Bakewell Pudding.

The final day’s walk into Eyam overlooks the manicured grounds of Chatsworth Park and presents a choice between the main riverside route through Baslow or a more challenging alternative up to Curbar and Froggatt Edge.

Sometimes there may be a shortage of available accommodation in a preferred location, in which case we will transfer you from the trail to your accommodation and back again at no extra charge. Overnight stops marked with a (T) will always require transfers as standard.

We do not expect you to have to travel more than a mile from the trail to your accommodation in most cases; should your accommodation be further than this, transfers will be provided as standard if practical. A very limited number of stops will require you to travel on foot up to two miles off the trail, however these instances will be clearly communicated to you if applicable.

Further transfers may also be required due to some accommodations having a two-night minimum booking policy, especially at weekends.

Below are the additional costs that may apply depending on your requirements. Dog-friendly tours are subject to a Daily Dog Charge, which will be listed below if applicable. Our standard prices per person are based upon two people sharing a room; if you are on your own, or are part of a group but require a room of your own, then the Solo Traveller or Single Supplements apply respectively:

Extra Nights & Rest Days

Affectionately called “the home of cheese-making in Derbyshire”, Hartington is well-worth an extra night’s stay during your holiday. This pretty Peak District village consists of traditional limestone buildings centred around a picturesque square, where a much-photographed duck pond adds to the relaxed ambience. There is also a great range of independent shops, cafés and pubs selling wonderful local fare, so if you’re seeking a tranquil taste of English rural life, Hartington is a fantastic option to consider.

The attractive market town of Bakewell, famous for its delicious Bakewell Pudding, is a popular choice for an extra night’s stay. The Old House Museum was built in the reign of Henry VIII and includes many items of interest, and Haddon Hall, one of the finest medieval manor houses in England, is just two miles south of the town. It is also worth taking a short trip to explore the impressive Chatsworth House, along with its tempting farm shop and Stables shopping courtyard.

The historic village of Eyam at the end of the Peak Pilgrimage is a great destination in which to spend an extra night. Well known as the “Plague Village”, where villagers isolated themselves in an attempt to contain the Black Death in the 1600s, Eyam has a wealth of stories to tell. Spend time exploring the many beautiful landmarks, including the 12th century church and the house and grounds of Eyam Hall, before relaxing in one of several cozy cafés with a well-earned cuppa.
