Somerset Coast Path

The Somerset Coast Path was opened in 2016 as part of ongoing plans to develop a full England Coast Path, showcasing the full range of the country’s coastal beauty. This attractive walking holiday stretches from Weston-super-Mare across Somerset’s unsung Jurassic coastline to the start of the South West Coast Path in Minehead, taking in a variety of stunning scenery along the way.

As well as taking a bracing walk along the dramatic ridge of Brean Down, this largely low-level trail boasts fascinating fossil beaches, quaint seaport villages, rugged peninsulas - from which to watch wildlife - and some of the longest sands in Europe, offering plenty to see and explore while enjoying the quiet atmosphere and incredible views throughout.

Choose from a range of itineraries to perfect your walking holiday on the Somerset Coast Path.

Your Itinerary

This itinerary lists our preferred overnight stops for this tour. Sometimes there may be a shortage of available accommodation in a preferred location, in which case we will transfer you from the trail to your accommodation and back again at no extra charge. Overnight stops marked with a (T) will always require transfers as standard.

Overnight stops marked with an (L) have very limited accommodation, and therefore more often than not will also require a transfer, particularly on bank holidays and weekends. We will use non-transfer accommodation wherever possible.

The daily mileages quoted are average trail miles only and do not include the distance from the trail to your accommodation. We do not expect you to have to travel more than a mile from the trail to your accommodation in most cases; should your accommodation be further than this, transfers will be provided as standard if practical. A very limited number of stops will require you to travel on foot up to two miles off the trail, however these instances will be clearly communicated to you if applicable.

Further transfers may also be required due to some accommodations having a two-night minimum booking policy, especially at weekends.

Below are the additional costs that may apply depending on your requirements. Dog-friendly tours are subject to a Daily Dog Charge, which will be listed below if applicable. Our standard prices per person are based upon two people sharing a room; if you are on your own, or are part of a group but require a room of your own, then the Solo Traveller or Single Supplements apply respectively:

A note about transfers
Solo Traveller Supplement
£60.00 per person / per night
Single Supplement
£50.00 per person / per night

Extra Nights & Rest Days

The Somerset Coast Path passes through a wide selection of wonderful locations that are well worth pausing in and exploring more thoroughly. Extend your holiday by booking extra nights at any of your overnight stops, and enjoy the many fantastic attractions on offer in each new place.

Weston-super-Mare marks the start of our Somerset Coast Path tours, and has plenty to see and do if you wish to spend an extra night here. Dubbed the original British seaside resort, this bustling town is steeped in Victorian history and dominated by a fantastic beach, and is also close to such famous tourist attractions as Glastonbury, Wookie, Cheddar and Wells. As well as a full range of facilities, shops and eateries to browse, Weston-super-Mare also has a fascinating museum dedicated to geology, archaeology, art and social history, dating from the Iron Age all the way up to the 20th century.

If you’re looking for somewhere quieter to spend a rest day, Huntspill is a quiet little village on the banks of Huntspill River, which feeds directly into the sea. As well as being ideally located to help you explore the surrounding countryside, Huntspill has plenty of unique charm and intriguing history to uncover. The Grade I-listed Church of St Peter was established back in 1208, and has seen many changes over the centuries, including being gutted by fire in 1878. There is also a lovely pub in which to relax while you prepare for the rest of your walk.

At the end of your walk is the traditional town of Minehead, the perfect place in which to spend an extra day celebrating the completion of your holiday. The old buildings, tree-lined avenues, independent shops and beautiful surrounding countryside give the impression of Minehead being frozen in time, with the biggest contributor to this atmosphere being the terminus of the West Somerset Railway, the longest standard gauge railway in Britain. Other attractions include the tranquil Blenheim Gardens, the Minehead Museum, the Regal Theatre, the small harbour and the sweeping, sandy beach, from which you can enjoy a variety of activities including windsurfing and kayaking.

You can add rest days at any of the overnight stops:
