Right on the boundary between the Dark and White Peaks of the Peak District, our twin-centre walking holiday provides a taste of the different characters this National Park has to offer. We’re provided short options for each day of walking, too, utilising local transport for some flexibility on the trail.
The opening half of your holiday begins with two circular hikes from Hathersage. The first day’s walk visits the famous gritstone formations of Stanage Edge and Millstone Edge. On the second day, you’ll follow the River Derwent and drop into the historic plague village, Eyam.
The third day features a bridging walk, clambering from farmland across the moors and up Win Hill, before plunging into the scenic Vale of Edale to reach Edale itself. As your new overnight hub, Edale offers a range of eateries in the evening, and makes an excellent base for two further days of circular walking.
The first climbs to the heights of the peaks along the famous Mam Tor Ridge Walk, then wanders down the high-sided Cave Dale and beneath the tower of Peveril Castle. You’ll head again into the hills on the second and final day, beginning with a strenuous grade one scramble up out of Grindsbrook Clough to Edale Moor. You’ll go on to take in part of the Pennine Way and head up to Lord’s Seat for some stunning views over the surrounding countryside: the ideal conclusion to a brilliant excursion into the Peaks.
This twin-centre tour was created with value and simplicity in mind. By having just two overnight locations, you save on the hassle of repacking your luggage each night, as well as avoiding any transfers to and from the trail.
Striding into the iconic landscapes of the Peak District: a mix of windswept moors with exposed gritstone edges, lush dales hiding stone promontories, and rolling farmland cut through by steepsided rivers.
Visiting historic sites like the famed plague village of Eyam, stone crosses like Hope Cross and several old manor houses.
Exploring at your own pace, backed by our shorter alternatives for each day’s walk.
