What can I expect from a Contours Walking Holiday?

A Contours Walking Holiday is a wonderful way to explore the countryside and offers the freedom to walk at your own pace, stop for breaks when you want and spend as long as you wish exploring the sites. We take care of every little detail so that you can concentrate on enjoying your walking holiday. Below is a general list of what is included in a Contours Walking Holiday.

Access to Exclusive Members Area

Contours Walking Holidays has an exclusive Members Area that can be accessed from our website once you have received a booking ID. This area contains a wealth of information to help you prepare for your walk, including travel information, downloadable GPS files, an interactive feedback form and much more. Access the Members Area here to find out more.

Comfortable Accommodation

We make use of a wide variety of accommodations, including family-run bed and breakfasts, friendly guesthouses, country inns and small hotels, depending on what is available along the trail. Each accommodation has been carefully chosen for the warmth of their welcome, the quality of their accommodation and their accessibility to the trail. A continental or cooked breakfast is also included at your accommodation each day as standard. Please note that we cannot guarantee en-suite rooms each night, though we do try to book these where available.

Luggage Transfers

We organise for your luggage to be transported for you between each overnight stop, so that every time you arrive at a new accommodation for the evening, your luggage will be waiting for you. With the bulk of your luggage taken care of, all you need to carry during the day is a light daypack containing whatever you require for that day’s walk.

Transfers between the Trail and your Accommodation

There may be occasions during your walk where your accommodation is situated more than a mile from the trail, or you may have to spend more than one night in the same place. Where this is the case, we provide transfers between your accommodation and the trail, which will be included in the holiday cost.

Your Personalised Holiday Pack

Every party who books a Contours Walking Holiday will receive an extensive Holiday Pack (one per party) tailored specifically for your walk. Your holiday pack will be delivered to you four weeks prior to your holiday’s start date, after receipt of full payment. Your Holiday Pack can also be delivered to your holiday’s starting accommodation if required.

The pack contains all of the information you need to make your walk enjoyable and worry-free, including official Ordinance Survey maps (or map booklets) or Harvey maps, official guidebooks or route notes describing the trail, detailed information on getting to and from the trail by public transport, a day-to-day itinerary including information on each night’s accommodation, luggage tags, an equipment checklist and contact telephone numbers in case you need assistance in an emergency. An electronic version of your Holiday Pack will also be emailed to the group leader, minus the maps and guidebooks. Additional copies of your holiday pack are available to purchase upon request.

24-hour Emergency Support

Our office is manned from 0900 to 1730 GMT Monday to Saturday (excluding Bank Holidays). If you require assistance outside of these times, we also provide an emergency telephone service should you need out-of-hours support during your holiday. Details of this will be included in your Holiday Pack.

What is not included?

In keeping with the sense of flexibility and freedom enjoyed from a Contours Walking Holiday, below are some aspects that you will need to take into account when preparing for your holiday:

  • Transport to/from the start or end of your holiday: While we cannot ourselves offer transportation to the start or from the end of your holiday, we are more than happy to assist you in your planning, and details of public transport links and car parking facilities (if requested) are provided in your Holiday Pack.
  • Lunches, dinners, drinks and snacks: Although breakfast is included in your holiday each day, being able to organise your own meals thereafter allows for more flexibility in choosing where to stop for food. Details regarding where to purchase packed lunches and evening meals are included in your holiday pack.
  • Transport should you decide to skip a stage: If you decide not to walk on one of your walking days for whatever reason, you would need to make your own way to your next night’s accommodation either by public transport or taxi.
  • Travel Insurance: We strongly recommend that you take out holiday insurance in order to cover you against cancellation, personal accident, illness and loss/theft of personal possessions and/or money. Contours Walking Holidays unfortunately cannot be held responsible for any of the above.
  • Walking equipment and clothing: You will need to provide your own walking equipment, such as a compass and well-fitting walking boots, along with anything else you think you might need. You can view a full list of the kit you would need to bring here.

If you have any further questions or queries, please feel free to contact us and we will be happy to advise you.
